South Coast Martial Arts - A brief history

Mr Chris Wood, currently 6th-degree black belt and Examiner, first started teaching for the Adult Education Authority at Heles School in 1979. He has now been a full-time martial arts instructor for over 25 years. Over that time, Mr Wood has developed SCMA, taught thousands of students, and hundreds to black belt level; many of his black belts have themselves reached very senior levels in TaekwonDo.

In addition to TaekwonDo, the art of Kickboxing was introduced to SCMA some years ago. This has proved to be a great platform to deliver many of the other diverse martial arts styles Mr Wood has practised, including Western Boxing, Muay Thai and Ju-Jitsu.

Mr Wood travelled to the USA to train in the FAST defence system, which he now teaches to children and adults as part of anti-bullying awareness, and at seminars.  Please see the link on this site if you are interested in this.

SCMA is proud to be a part of the UKITF, under Grandmaster Trevor Nicholls 9th degree, regarded as one of the most influential TaekwonDo Grandmasters in the world. This provides SCMA students and instructors with regular opportunities to attend seminars, specialist training events, and to compete at National and International events at the very highest level.

Under Mr Wood's expert guidance, SCMA has produced many national and world champions over the years and continues to provide support for those students wishing to develop their sporting career in martial arts.

South Coast Martial Arts is a family friendly, traditional martial arts club.
